III.SHORT STORY

"MAGANDA THE GIRL THEY BOTH LOVED"
Some girl named maganda is dating Apolake who you may remember from such disasters as bieng engaged Tala. Maganda and Apolake race dirt bikes, but while it’s just a hobby for maganda, pretty much consumes apolake life. All he ever thinks about is racing his bike and beating Dumakulem. You probably won’t remember Dumakulem from such annoyances as aking Dian masalanta to make Anitun tabu jealos, maganda doesn’t really get what the deal is between Dumakulem and Apolake. They were best friends a year ago, but Apolake won’t say what happened to end their friendship. One day, Maganda asks Mayari if she knows about Dumakulem. Mayari says she never got to know him very well, but both she and Dian masalanta agree that Dumakulem is a great guy. This surprises maganda, since all she ever hears is how much Apolake hates him.
Dian masalanta and Hukloban are in the kitchen that afternoon. The sink gets backed up and Hukloban gets it unblocked, then teases Dian masalanta for not knowing how to fix a clogged sink. Even though Hukloban was clearly just teasing, Dian masalanta gets all defensive and acts like Hukloban was saying she couldn’t do it because she’s a girl. So now they’ve got a stupid bet going: they’ll each list three things they do well, and each will have to do the things on the others’ list. I hate this. And the challenges are: For Dian masalanta – change a tire, build a shelf, replace a washer. For Hukloban Do the grocery shopping for a week, make an apron, cook Dian masalanta dinner, including chocolate chip cookies. I hate you, I hate you, I hate you.
Apolake is really upset one day and tells Maganda his grandmother in Encantadia is in the hospital. The reason he’s so upset is that his parents are taking him with them to go see her and he’ll miss a race. He’s, like, terrified that Dumakulem will win if Apolake not there to beat him. Maganda is worried about apolake obsession and asks Tala if she knows what happened, since Tala used to date Dumakulem. (I don’t think they ever even went out, but I’m too lazy to check.) Between Cara, Je, Idianale and cara, Maganda finds out the boys were either fighting over a girl, fighting over a bike, or one of them almost got the other killed. In short, nobody knows.
That night, while Apolake flies to encantada, Maganda goes to a film festival by herself and meets none other than Dumakulem. They start talking in line and end up going for pizza together after the movie. Dumakulem asks how Apolake is doing and expresses his admiration for Apolake riding skills. Maganda asks Dumakulem what happened between them, but Dumakulem won’t tell her and just says it was a misunderstanding that was as much his fault as Apolake. Maganda is surprised, considering Apolake acts like Dumakulem is the devil. The next day is the rally Apolake is missing. It’s a relay, and Maganda isn’t planning on entering without her partner. Dumakulem calls and says his partner is sick. He and Maganda decide to enter together.
Idianale has decided she needs to meet some new boys, so she decides to go to the rally. I guess she and Maganda are friends, even though we’ve never met Maganda before this book. Idianale gets a magazine about dirt bikes in the hopes of figuring out what a person wears to a dirt bike rally. Dumakulem and Maganda win their race, and Idianale assumes the thing between Dumakulem and Apolake has been resolved. After the race, MAganda invites Idianale to go to the Dairi Burger with her and some of the other bikers. When she sits down at their table, Idianale meets  amanikable and instantly falls in love.
Monday morning, Idianale sees Apolake and tells him how awesome Maganda and Apolake were in the race. Then amanikable comes up and says he saw Maganda and Dumakulem at Guido’s the other night and he’s really glad amanikable and Dumakulem patched things up. Apolake looks mad. Idianale realizes they fucked up and drags Amanikable away. At lunch, Dumakulem and  Maganda have it out, and in the end Apolake still won’t say what his problem is with Dumakulem, but Maganda agrees to stay away from him. Apolake calls that night to apologize for all his yelling, and Maganda tells him Dumakulem said some really nice things about him.
Dian masalanta finds Idianale dirt bike magazine and gets all scared and reminds Idianale how she and Ned feel about motorcycles. Idianale calms her down by saying she’d never get on a bike because wearing a helmet would mess up her hair. Then amanikable finally calls and asks her out for the next night. Idianale is afraid he’ll show up on his bike so she says she’ll meet him at Guido’s. Tala and Mayari go to the hardware store to get stuff to build a shelf, but the sales guy is really unfriendly and unhelpful. They don’t understand any of his questions and end up leaving. Idianale takes Tala back to the store a few days later and flirts with a salesman to get his help. Tala doesn’t like it, but as far as I’m concerned, actually buying the shit just requires people skills. It’s building it that’s going to get you, Tala. I hope it falls down when you try to put a book on it.
Idianale relationship with Amanikable gets off to a smashing start. They have tons in common, such as being popular, enjoying parties and being good at sports. Amanikable is perfect except for the fact that he rides a dirt bike. Every time they go out, all Idianale can think of is how upset her mother would be if she knew Idianale was dating a guy with a dirt bike. I don’t know why. I mean, it’s not like Mayari  has ever done any actual parenting before, so I don’t know what Idianale thinks she’s going to do.
Maganda knows she can’t stay with Apolake much longer if he’s going to continue to be all obsessive and horrible. She wants to do something fun and relaxing. She says Mayari and Tala go bowling sometimes and she’d like for her and Apolake to join them, but Apolake only wants to work on his bike. She tries again for the next night, but then he wants to work on her bike. One night, she finally gets him to agree to a date, but then he calls and says his dad has to work late and he has to stay home with his sister. Maganda  thinks he’s relieved that he has an excuse to stay home with his bike, and she goes ahead and gets pissed at him based on this assumption. She goes to the movies by herself.
Maganda runs into Dumakulemat the theater and they go for coffee afterward. a Maganda finally learns the whole story about Dumakulem and Apolake, which is long and uninteresting. It comes down to the two of them racing, Apolake crashing, and then thinking Dumakulem somehow made him crash on purpose. Whatever. A Dumakulem takes Maganda home, and there’s Apolake sitting on her front porch with a bouquet of flowers. The boys almost have a fistfight, but decide to settle the score on the bike path the next day.
Maganda calls the Idianale the next day, hoping to find Amanikable because amanikable is someone Apolake would listen to. Amanikable isn’t there, but Mayari is and this is how she fills her meddling quota for the week. She and Tala pick up Maganda and they find the boys just in time to fail in stopping them from racing. Apolake cuts in front of Dumakulem, causing Dumakulem to crash. They call an ambulance and everyone goes to the hospital.
Dumakulem fine, but Maganda is pissed at Apolake and won’t talk to him. She’s also told him Dumakulem doesn’t want to see him, but Dumakulem would like nothing more than to have his friend back. Mayari wishes there was something she could do to let Apolake know that Dumakulem doesn’t hate him. I guess she finally figures out she can, you know, tell him, so Apolake goes to the hospital with some burgers and fries from the Dairi Burger. They make up, and later, Dumakulem tells Maganda he wishes she would make up with Apolake, too.
Mayari gives this convenient wrap-up for me near the end: “MAganda and Apolake are back together. Dumakulem and Apolake are friends again. Idianale and Amanikable are out celebrating his victory in the last race. My parents are so happy Idianale finally has a boyfriend they completely approve of that they’ve gone out to celebrate, too…And I’ve had a gourmet meal prepared for me by the best apron maker in Sweet Valley.” Hukluban and Mayari call their contest a tie since mayari bookshelf crashes down while they’re eating Hukluban really awful dinner.

I.INTRODUCTION
Literature is an outlet of escape from reality. At the end of the day, I open a book and allow the story to take me to a world where my own fades into a distant memory. With every turn of a page, my imagination is free to reinvent a narrative that is better than the reality I live. Literature can be non-fiction and based on facts surrounding real events, people, and places. Examples include history books, memoirs, biographies, newspapers, self-help, devotionals, and textbooks. Literature can also be writings based not on truth, but on the imagination and creativity of the author. This includes fiction novels and children story books. A lot of times authors of fiction will get their idea from a real life event and then they allow their imagination to recreate the characters and plot.
Aside from being fiction or non-fiction, literature can also fall into different categories according to the genre, purpose, and style. Some genres include romance, science fiction, Christian, suspense, and western. The authors purpose for writing will likely determine what style and genre they will use. Poetry and drama are forms of literature that are stylistically different from other writings. Every writer wants to engage their audience and capture their attention in order to convey a message. The meaning of the text may hold differing messages within the audience, but it is the goal of the author to captivate the reader and keep them wanting to read more.
John Smith wrote historical accounts of life while he was living. His writings brought insight and hope regarding English settlement during the early 1600s. The General History of Virginia is difficult to comprehend in areas because I am unfamiliar with his use and style of language, but nonetheless it is a beautifully written piece of literature. John Smith’s targeted audience was most likely the people of his time, with the goal of informing them of recent events.
1 The body of written works of a language, period, or culture.
2. Imaginative or creative writing, especially of recognized artistic value: "Literature must be an analysis of experience and a synthesis of the findings into a unity" (Rebbecca West).
3. The art or occupation of a literary writer.
4. The body of written work produced by scholars or researchers in a given field: medical literature.
5. Printed material: collected all the available literature on the subject.
6. Music. All the compositions of a certain kind or for a specific instrument or ensemble: the symphonic literature.
